What is a Tact Switch?
Tact or tactile switches are small and compact switches, designed to mount PCB boards. They’re on/off electronic switches made to connect components to form electronic circuits. The circuit is connected when pressure is applied or the button is pressed, once the pressure is released, the circuit is cut. They can be a great alternative to push button switches as they are often small, require less force to operate, and have more of a ‘clicky’ feel. We supply a wide range on non-illuminated and illuminated tact switches.
Where can you find them?
Tactile switches are often used on electromechanical switch for keyboards, instruments, interface control panel applications, or gamepads of many consoles.
What are PCB Tact switches?
A PCB switch is a switch that is directly mounted onto a PCB (Printed Circuit Board). Surface mount PCB switches (SMD/SMT) are designed to sit flat, directly on top of a PCB. Through-hole or ‘thru-hole’ PCB switches are inserted into a drilled hole on the printed circuit boards and soldered to pads on the opposite side.
We have over 50 types of non-illuminated tact switches with attributes including:
