Components for Security

In many industries and environments, safety and security are top priorities for a business or organisation. This might mean safety for their staff, customers, people in their care or the general public. Most companies also implement some degree of security in order to protect their premises, people, equipment or records.

There are many ways to increase security, and RJS Electronics offers a wide variety of components to suit your needs and add an extra layer of protection to your products or business.

Which RJS components aid security?

Anti-vandals are an excellent option for push button switches that need to go into a security device/secure environment. These robust, long-lasting switches are so-called because they are resistant to damage from overuse or misuse.

We have a wide variety of anti-vandals in a range of sizes, with IP rated options for water resistance, as well as many LED illuminated styles. Our switches can also be customised with different materials and colour finishes, plus custom symbol etching/stamping.

In buildings where access to certain areas is controlled, you will usually see electronically-controlled doors that require some kind of code, key card or fob to enter the area and a door exit button to leave again.

Our door exit buttons are large, eye-catching and easy to use, with the option to add text or symbols in order to make their purpose even clearer. All of our exit buttons have the option to be ordered pre-mounted to a panel, in a variety of sizes and materials.

When the operation of a certain system or machine needs to be limited to specific personnel, a key lock switch is the perfect solution. These switches restrict use to only those who have a key, which therefore prevents any misuse or tampering.

You can choose from plastic or metal key lock switches, as well as IP rated and LED illuminated options. We supply these switches in a range of shapes, sizes and colours, with 2 or 3 position configurations.

A key component that every security system needs is a warning signal if the security is breached. Our LED indicators are a perfect option for this, as they provide an instant, clear signal to the user.

We have LED indicators with single, bi-colour, RGB and split-face illumination styles, so you can find the suitable type for your requirements. If you need indicators for outdoor applications, we also have IP rated and ultrabright options.

Similarly to indicators, buzzers can be used in security/alarm systems to clearly notify users of an issue or breach. These can be used alongside or in place of LED indicators, dependent on the application and requirements.

When selecting buzzers for your project, you can opt for metal or plastic types, and whether you want them to make a continuous, discontinuous or flicker sound. We also have LED illuminated and IP rated options available.

Applications for our Security components

We provide switches and components for a wide variety of safety and security uses, including door entry systems, control panels, scanners and intercoms. Below are just some of the applications that our components can go into.

1. Prisons and Custodial Buildings

A custodial building is probably one of the first things that comes to mind when you think of a place or organisation that requires a high level of security. Some things that prisons feature to keep the inmates and staff safe include: body scanners, heavy-duty security doors, safety showers and intercom systems.

The most common switches you will see in these systems are anti-vandal switches, to withstand heavy use and any possible damage. Buzzers and indicators are also popular for a variety of applications in this type of setting.

2. Airports

Airports are another high security environment, for obvious reasons. Common examples of these security measures are bag and body scanners, metal detectors and security gates.

Control panels for this equipment will often feature key lock switches to stop any unauthorised use, and emergency stop buttons (e-stops) in case of an emergency or a problem with the machine. These devices will also often feature indicators. For example, a metal detector may have a green light to signify when it is okay to pass through, and a red light when something has been detected.

3. Hospitals and Care Facilities

Similarly to custodial buildings, hospitals and healthcare facilities need to keep certain areas safe and secure, whether that is to protect patients or to restrict access to machinery, equipment and medicines.

In these environments, you are likely to see door entry/exit switches on most doors, which will often open automatically. Machinery and devices in these settings will also have safety and security elements, that will require components such as key lock switches to restrict access, and indicators to alert the user of any problems.

4. Factories and Machinery

Having a secure environment is very important in any industrial setting, especially when there is a lot of heavy or dangerous machinery being used.

Key lock switches are therefore crucial for protecting machinery against accidental or intentional misuse, tampering or damage. LED indicators and buzzers are another common feature in factories and on machinery, as they can alert the workers to any issues that might have arisen. And if there is a problem with a piece of machinery, e-stop buttons quickly and safely shut it down to avoid injury or damage.

Having robust security measures within your business or project is always important, whether they are minor or high level. And to make sure that your security systems are working properly, you need components that you can rely on.
