What is an Emergency Stop Switch?
Emergency stop switches, also known as ‘E-Stops‘, are large push button switches that are used in cases of emergency. When pressed, these panel mount switches will immediately break the electrical circuit within a device and completely turn it off. This means that they offer a quick and simple way to stop machinery in an emergency, when typical shutdown would take too long or is not possible.
E-stops are also designed to have a latching function with a release mechanism (e.g. twist to release), to prevent the machine from being re-activated before it is safe to do so.
Key Features of the RJS-PS16A-81 Series
The RJS-PS16A-81 series of emergency stop switches are designed to have a shorter body and smaller profile than standard e-stops, whilst still delivering the same crucial safety function.
If you are looking for e-stops to fit within a smaller piece of machinery or equipment, the RJS-PS16A-81 series is an ideal choice, with a panel cut-out size of only 16mm. Plus, you can save extra space behind the panel by selecting the short pin options.
The release function on these e-stops is ‘twist release’, meaning that once the button is pressed, the actuator locks in place and can only be reset by turning it clockwise. Each button has clear white markings on the actuator to indicate this. These buttons also feature an IP65 rating, making them dust tight and protected against water projected from a nozzle.
