Anti-vandal push button switches are one of our most popular product ranges, but it can be hard to select the right switches for you based on their part numbers alone. In this article we’re breaking down each letter and number and what all of it means.
1. Series
Each section and letter/number in our part numbers denotes a specific attribute of the switch, and starts with the series name. Each series of our metal push buttons have unique attributes, so it’s important to select the best ones for your application. For example, the RJS1N1LP is our series of low profile (LP) anti-vandals.
2. Size
Following the series name will be a number, which indicates the diameter of the panel cut-out required for the switch (rather than the size of the actuator). Our anti-vandal switches are available in sizes from 8mm up to 40mm, but this varies between series.
3. Actuator Shape
While all of our anti-vandals are round, there are a range of styles that can be chosen:
- ‘Flat head’ (F) which is flush with the switch bezel.
- ‘High head’ (H) which is flat but slightly raised from the bezel.
- ‘Ball head’ (B) where the actuator is slightly domed.

4. Illumination Style
Our anti-vandals are available with 4 standard LED illumination styles: Ring (R), Dot (D), Power Symbol (C1), and Power Symbol + Ring (C5). However, for more specific requirements, we also offer custom text/symbol illumination.

5. LED Colour
Select from a variety of single LED illumination colours – red, green, blue, white, yellow or orange. Or if you want more customisable illumination, you can select RGB LED (denoted as 3A).
6. Material Finish
The standard material finish of our anti-vandal switches is brushed steel (BS), but you can choose to instead have black anodised aluminium (BLK), raw/polished brass, or a range of coloured finishes.
7. Voltage
The voltage of an electromechanical component is the amount of force that it requires to drive electrons through a circuit. The higher the voltage of a switch, the more electrons that can flow through it. It is important to select the correct voltage components for your application, as if it’s too low it won’t work, but if it’s too high it could overload the circuit.
8. IP Rating
The final part of an anti-vandal part number represents the IP rating of the switch. All of our anti-vandals have an IP rating of either 65 or 67.
- IP65 – dust tight and protected against water projected from a 6.3mm nozzle at 12.5 litres per minute.
- IP67 – dust tight and protected from water immersion up to 1 metre for 30 minutes.
Momentary or Latching?
When ordering anti-vandal switches, it is also important to note whether you need them to have a momentary or latching (denoted as A) function. Momentary switches only connect (or disconnect) the circuit whilst they are being pressed, whereas latching switches stay in position when pushed and must be pushed again to release them/break the circuit.
Due to their low profile design both in front of and behind the panel, the RJS1N1LP series is only available with a momentary function.
Putting it all together
Now that we’ve broken down each section of the part number, let’s put it together in an example:
RJS107-19LA-F-R-G-BS-120V-67J
This is an RJS107 series anti-vandal, which is our range of high current push buttons. It has a 19mm panel cut-out and a latching function. It has a flat head with green ring LED illumination. The material is brushed steel, it has a voltage of 120V and an IP67 rating.
