Emergency Stop Switches, also known as ‘E-Stops’, are push button switches that form an integral part of safety mechanisms in emergency situations. When pressed, they are designed to break the circuit in a piece of machinery or equipment and immediately shut it off, to avoid any accidents or injuries occurring. To further increase safety, most e-stops have a latching function, so that they have to be manually reset once they have been pressed.

All machinery requires an emergency stop button, so E-Stops can be found in a wide range of applications; including industrial, commercial and public facilities. These buttons typically have red actuators, and are commonly mounted onto a yellow background to make them easily identifiable. They may also feature LED illumination or ‘Emergency Stop’ text to make visibility even clearer.
